DOROTHY HALL
January 1920 - January 2009
Everyone who knew Dorothy will remember her as a lady who loved to talk; but there was more to her than that.
Dorothy was born in 1920 in Elswick, where she grew up within the Congregational Church which remained her spriritual home after she moved to Fulwood when she married. Later there were sad times as her baby boy died and then her marriage broke up. However she still had a role in life as mother to Elizabeth.
She had many interests; she ran a Brownie Pack whilst living at Elswick and her interest in guiding stayed with her. She spent holidays at the guide Chalet in Switzerland and became a member of the Trefoil Guild.
Through baby-sitting for neighbours, she was introduced to Fulwood Methodist where she became a loyal member of the Church, the Women’s Fellowship and Women’s Network; serving on many committees and chairing many meetings.
She greatly enjoyed her visit, with a church group, to the Holy Land; after initial concerns about being too old - at 73. Until the last few months of her life she was never too old!
For Dorothy, her home was a place of welcome and generous hospitality. She was a skilled needlewoman, her gifts ranging from making clothes for herself and Elizabeth, to knitting dolls for a Network project in the 1980s.
We give thanks to God for Dorothy’s faith and dedication and her generous sharing of all her gifts.
